Get to know Nephrologist Dr. Yaw Ababio Boateng, who serves patients in Utah.

A seasoned nephrologist, Dr. Boateng is affiliated with University of Utah Health, seeing patients at Dixie Dialysis and Kidney Clinic in St. George, as well as Desert Valley Dialysis and Kidney Clinic in Mesquite. He specializes in general nephrology, ICU nephrology; all dialysis modalities - hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and home dialysis; electrolyte abnormalities and hypertension.

The Dixie Dialysis and Kidney Clinic is located in St. George, Utah. It has 11 dialysis stations and a team of professionals to support their  patients receiving dialysis. It also provides care for patients with kidney conditions that include chronic kidney disease, kidney stones, and others.

Located in Mesquite, Nevada, the Desert Valley Dialysis & Kidney Clinic has 10 dialysis stations as well as a kidney (nephrology) clinic in the building. This means patients can go to their dialysis session and get follow-up treatment from their nephrology provider at the same place.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Boateng obtained his medical degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology School of Medical Sciences (KNUST-SMS) in Kumasi, Ghana. He also holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) in Clinical Pharmacology from the University of Aberdeen in the UK. Upon relocating to the United States, he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine, and fellowship in nephrology at the Montefiore Medical Center North Division/New York Medical College.

Recently elected as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the doctor is board-certified in nephrology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Teaching students, he currently serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Utah. He is a published author of children’s books as well as peer-reviewed scientific publications in the British Journal of Pharmacology, the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, and the European Journal of Urology & Nephrology.
