  • Bartonella Homeopathic Medicine?

Unless they show studies proving that their formulation can not cause infection (Bartonellosis) my advice is to refrain from taking this product. READ MORE

  • Smoking with pneumomediastinum?

It’s a terrible idea to smoke with pneumomediastinum as the lung space is already impaired and smoking always causes swelling in the bronchial pathways which limits the breathing space further. Not to mention smoke decreases blood oxygen very quickly. If the question is does smoking predispose to pneumomediastinum, I’m not aware. READ MORE

  • NF-1?

If you are referring to neurofibromatosis type 1, then I see no reason not to get the COVID vaccination per se. If you have any associated conditions such as increased coagulability or allergies, then I recommend getting the vaccination inside a facility that can deal with urgent situations such as a hospital. If you have coagulation issues, I do recommend not getting the Johnson & Johnson or Astra zeneca vaccines. If you have any allergies to any component of any of the vaccines, then you definitely should avoid that vaccine. READ MORE

  • When should I go to the doctor for kidney pain?

As soon as possible because if it is stone pain, there is always the possibility of the stone stopping the urine flow from one side and damaging the kidney on that side. Also, kidney pain is usually pretty intense and no need to suffer. DA READ MORE

  • How long will this last or is it something else?

I definitely recommend you be evaluated by your primary care physician at least, and likely also a urologist and/or an endocrinologist. Make sure you mention to any physician you are seeing any supplements you may be taking. DA READ MORE

  • Why am I seeing blood after using the bathroom?

Probably hemorrhoids, but given your age and if there is a family history of malignancy, then other causes come into play. I highly recommend being evaluated by a medical professional. DA READ MORE

  • Can you survive double pneumonia?

Yes, you can with appropriate treatment. Support with oxygen if necessary, antibiotics if indicated, etc. READ MORE

  • How is hepatitis C diagnosed?

Yes, you should test your blood. Even though you don’t have symptoms you may still have been exposed. The first test I usually send for is a hepatitis C antibody (IgG), and if positive I send for a virus load count with liver function studies. DA READ MORE

  • Is metformin the only form of medication for diabetes?

No, there are many other medications. That said the cornerstone of treatment in my patients is diet and exercise, which should protect you or rid you of the disease. Most medications will mostly control your glucose but not protect well against the really dangerous complications of diabetes, such as heart attacks. DA READ MORE

  • Does an internist work only in hospital settings?

No, we mostly work in the outpatient setting. DA READ MORE

  • I am having a pulling sensation through my vagina while urinating. What could this be?

I highly encourage you to be seen by a medical professional, as it sounds there may be a polyp or other type of mass in your output tract. READ MORE

  • Shortness of breath

Yes. See a medical professional. READ MORE

  • Is my bronchitis still contagious?

Per most authorities, you should not be contagious. That said, the previous statement is assuming the correct antibiotic is on board. It sounds like the antibiotic was off target and therefore it was your own immune system was, is fighting back. Given your symptoms, I would say you are still contagious. READ MORE

  • Fatty liver- can it get better?

The liver is renowned for being very capable of renovating itself, at least prior to scarring (cirrhosis). If you revert to healthy lifestyles you have a good chance of getting a well functioning liver back. Heed your doctor's advice. READ MORE

  • Are hemoglobin injections advisable for kids?

Injections. There must be a reason(s) that the usual method of oral supplementation with iron cannot be employed such as, among other things: side effects of iron (nausea), patient noncompliance, absence of gastric acid. Otherwise, I would prefer oral iron, as the injections can be painful, with possible longstanding skin discoloration at the site of injection. READ MORE

  • Can you recommend any multivitamins that will help fight fatigue and weakness?

Multivitamins can be useful when the nutrition is deficient. As such I think you should look at other reasons, such as not getting enough sleep (7.5 - 8.5 hrs nightly), not getting enough exercise previous to the operation, not having a nutritious food intake, too much mental stress. All of these may culminate together where the surgery pushed you over the edge into a fatigued state, which you're having difficulty pulling out of. READ MORE

  • Horrendous painful arms!

The possibility of polymyalgia rheumatica comes to mind, but should be evaluated by a health care provider, as its diagnosis involves testing of the blood and a directed history with a physical exam. Dr. D. Aldoori READ MORE
