Elevating the Standards of Orthopedic Surgery

A board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with a specialization in hip and knee replacement surgery, knee and shoulder arthroscopic surgery, Dr. Vernace is affiliated with Main Line Orthopedics in Bryn Mawr,  Pennsylvania. As a Clinical Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Jefferson Medical College and the former President of the medical staff at Bryn Mawr Hospital, he brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his field.

A graduate of La Salle College and Jefferson Medical College, he underwent his orthopaedic training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, followed by a fellowship in joint replacement surgery at the prestigious Rothman Institute. Since establishing his private practice in 1988, he has remained committed to delivering personalized patient care in a solo practice setting, distinguishing himself as one of the few independent orthopedists in the Philadelphia area.

Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in orthopaedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

An esteemed member of the Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, Dr. Vernace remains dedicated to advancing orthopaedic care by spearheading the development of non-hospital joint replacement centers both locally and nationally. As a key member of the Physician Advisory Board for Value Health, he played a pivotal role in performing the inaugural joint replacement surgeries at MUVE facilities in Warminster and West Chester. He served as the initial Medical Director at the MUVE joint replacement center in West Chester, further demonstrating his commitment to innovative and patient-centered healthcare solutions.

Throughout his career, Dr. Vernace has garnered numerous accolades, including being consistently recognized as one of the area’s “Top Doctors” by Philadelphia Magazine and Main Line publications. In 2006, he made history as the second surgeon in the country to perform custom fit (kinematic) total knee surgery, a pioneering technique that he later shared through educational initiatives across the US and Europe, solidifying his reputation as a leading expert in the field of joint replacement surgery.

In addition to his professional achievements, he is deeply rooted in the community, residing in Newtown Square and enjoying his leisure time as an avid golfer.
