A board-certified and fellowship-trained anesthesiologist, Dr. Patel joined National Spine & Pain Centers in 2012, serving patients in the Aldie and Haymarket areas. He is expertly trained in a variety of diagnostic specialties and treatments, including: fluoroscopic-guided spinal injections, radiofrequency ablation, discography, spinal cord stimulation, kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty and peripheral nerve injections.

As an individual with scoliosis, he intimately appreciates the impact chronic pain has on his patients’ lives. Empathy, collaboration and communication are the foundation of his patient care philosophy. He eagerly works with patients and their families to create customized plans to treat their pain and restore quality of life.

Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Patel received his undergraduate degree at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2004, and earned his medical degree at the Albany Medical College in 2007. 

After completing his internship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, he completed his residency in anesthesiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2011, during which time he authored content for a preeminent pain management textbook. In 2012, he completed his fellowship in interventional pain management at UCLA, where he was trained to perform the most advanced non-surgical techniques by one of the world’s leading experts in pain management.

An authority in his field, the doctor is board-certified in anesthesiology and pain management by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). As the certifying body for anesthesiologists since 1938, the ABA is committed to partnering with physicians to advance lifelong learning and exceptional patient care. Its mission is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology.

Remaining up to date in his field, Dr. Patel is an active member of the North American Spine Society, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and the International Spine Intervention Society.

Anesthesiology is the medical specialty concerned with the total perioperative care of patients before, during, and after surgery. It encompasses anesthesia, intensive care medicine, critical emergency medicine, and pain medicine. Anesthesiologists have the primary responsibility of monitoring the patient’s vital signs during surgery. In addition to basic measurements such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature, they measure the patient’s respiration.

Throughout his illustrious academic career and medical training, Dr. Patel has received numerous awards and distinctions, including the Top Doctor Award by Northern Virginia Magazine (2015, 2016), and Director at Large for the Virginia American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians (ASIPP) (2015, 2016).
