“I have several goals in my interactions with patients: My first goal is to partner with my patients in decision making. To achieve this, I need to educate them regarding their treatment options, and I need to get to know them well enough to give them advice relevant to their circumstances. When I finish my initial consultation, all questions should be answered. My next goal is to perform a technically perfect operation in optimal circumstances. This minimizes the risk of complications, and maximizes the chances for an excellent surgical outcome. I use very few blood products in my procedures, and my preference is to use arteries as bypass conduits, because of better long-term outcomes. Lastly, I pay close attention to postoperative care to minimize both complications, and time in the hospital” expressed the doctor.

Cardiothoracic surgery is the field of medicine involved in the surgical treatment of organs inside the thorax. Cardiothoracic surgeons are medical doctors who specialize in surgical procedures inside the thorax, which may involve the heart, lungs, esophagus, and other organs in the chest.
