Get to know Podiatrist Dr. Mark Bruce Spal, who serves patients in Randolph, New Jersey.

Dr. Spal is an established and highly skilled podiatrist with over three decades of experience in primary podiatric care. He is self-employed, focusing his efforts on providing podiatric services to those who are non-ambulatory.

Entering the podiatric medical profession to explore his passion for helping people, Dr. Spal earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, Iowa in 1991. He then completed his residency at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in East Orange, New Jersey, where he trained under the tutelage of Drs. Herman Tax and Joseph Greene. 

During his hiatus from podiatry school, he volunteered his services with the United States Public Health Services and traveled to Barrow, Alaska where he worked in the pharmacy. He was able to speak with the native Americans about basic foot care at their various clinics throughout Alaska.

Additionally, Dr. Spal did a one- month externship at the Gillis W. Long Hansen’s Disease Center at Carville in Louisiana where he assisted the podiatric surgeons in providing care to the Leprosy patients who had foot care issues. It was there that he also met the then-Surgeon General of the United States, C. Everett Koop, who was there expressing his gratitude for the services provided by the podiatric surgeons. 

A member of the New Jersey Podiatric Medical Society and the American Podiatric Medical Association, Dr. Spal holds board certification in primary podiatric care (since 1996). He also holds board certification in diabetic foot wounds and therapeutic footwear (since 1998). 

Currently, he is a Case Reviewer for the American Board of Multiple Specialties in Podiatry (ABMSP) for all graduating podiatry students who wish to join the Board. He is very honored and proud of his latest appointment as a Board of Director member of the ABMPS. 

Podiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatment of a variety of disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity. A podiatrist, also known as a podiatric physician or a foot and ankle surgeon, is a medical professional devoted to the treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower extremity. They can treat injuries and complications from ongoing health issues like diabetes.

Well-regarded throughout the northern New Jersey community, Dr. Spal has earned numerous accolades for his quality and patient-centered care. In 2016, he was selected as an honored member of Trademark Who’s Who Top Doctors Honor’s Edition.
