Dr. Jared D. Ament is a board eligible fellowship-trained neurosurgeon. He specializes in complex and minimally invasive brain and spine surgery, using the latest technologies, including neuronavigation, motrion preservation, and robotics. He focuses on the management of spinal deformity, degenerative spine diseases, brain and spine tumors, facial pain/spasm syndromes (trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, and glossopharyngeal neuralgia). Dr. Ament is an advocate for motion preserving spine surgery and technology for the appropriate patients (artificial cervical and lumbar discs). He is involved in 3 FDA articial disc clinical trials and even an artificial facet trial.

Get to know Neurosurgeon Dr. Jared Ament, who serves patients throughout the State of California.
A board-eligible and fellowship-trained neurosurgeon, Dr. Ament recently joined the Neurosurgery & Spine Group (NSG) as the Director of Outcomes Research and Co-Director of Spine Neurosurgery. He works out of West Hills Hospital, Cedars Sinai Medical Center, and Marina Del Rey Hospital.
Known as the “anti-fusion doctor”, he specializes in motion preservation artificial disc technology for both the neck and lower back. His clinical interests include complex and minimally invasive brain and spine surgery, using the latest technologies, including neuronavigation and robotics. He focuses on the management of spinal deformity, degenerative spine diseases, brain and spine tumors, facial pain/spasm syndromes (trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, and glossopharyngeal neuralgia).
Academically, Dr. Ament received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto, and graduated with his medical degree from the Medical School for International Health, a collaborative initiative between Ben-Gurion University in Israel and Columbia University. He completed his surgical internship at the University of Massachusetts and a postdoctoral fellowship in surgical outcomes at Harvard Medical School.
Subsequently, he obtained his Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health, and served as adjunct faculty at Harvard’s department of Population Health and Epidemiology. He then went on to complete his residency in neurosurgery at the University of California, Davis, and an enfolded complex and minimally invasive spine fellowship at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center under Dr. J. Pat Johnson.
An advocate for motion preserving spine surgery and technology for the appropriate patients (artificial cervical and lumbar discs, facet off-loading devices, etc), Dr. Ament has specific research interests in cost-effectiveness, cost-utility analyses, economic modeling, decision analysis, international surgery, and medical education. He and Dr. Vokshoor are the principal investigators in three ongoing FDA national trials, exploring the latest in artificial disc technologies in order to bring the very best to their patients. He has also spearheaded several large projects both in the USA and other countries including Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Ethiopia, Sudan, Ecuador, and Bolivia.
Neurosurgery is the medical specialty concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, surgical treatment, and rehabilitation of disorders which affect any portion of the nervous system including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and extra-cranial cerebrovascular system. Neurosurgeons are doctors who diagnose and treat problems with the nervous system, often by performing surgery on the brain or spine. They treat strokes, tumors, certain types of birth defects, infections, and head or spinal cord injuries.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Ament has been the recipient of the Mayfield Clinical Science and John Hanbery Awards, for the best clinical papers related to his work on the cost-effectiveness of artificial disc technology in patients with degenerative cervical spine disease. He was also part of the team that introduced the first Neurosurgical Boot Camp to South American trainees in Bolivia in an effort to standardize neurosurgical education abroad.
In his spare time, he prioritizes activities with his wife and young children.
