Dr. Moskowitz is a board-certified colorectal surgeon who has been in practice for over 30 years. His interests include the surgical treatment of crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, proctology, as well as all surgical aspects of surgical oncology as it pertains to colorectal surgery.

Originally in practice with Dr. Raymond Crystal until Dr. Crystal’s retirement in 2001, Dr. Moskowitz was engaged in the practice of general and colorectal surgery at Roosevelt and St Luke’s Hospitals in New York City prior to establishing himself in New Jersey.

Dr. Moskowitz received his medical degree from Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in 1978. He then went on to complete a residency in general surgery at the North Shore Long Island Jewish Medical Center, followed by a fellowship in colorectal surgery at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He also completed an additional year of postgraduate research and clinical training in London at St. Mark’s Hospital, which is considered the “cradle of colon and rectal surgery.” There, Dr. Moskowitz worked with the surgical pioneers of inflammatory bowel disease who created the “pouch” operation for restorative proctocolectomy in patients with ulcerative colitis.

In collaboration with his mentor, Professor Nicholls, Dr. Moskowitz has written seminal papers describing the staging of “pouchitis.”

The board protects the standing of ABCRS diplomates as the recognized certified surgical specialists in diseases of the colon and rectum.

Dr. Moskowitz is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and a Fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (FASCRS). Fellowship is one of the most distinguished designations the College offers its members. It is the ultimate recognition of professional achievement.

Colorectal surgery is a field of medicine dealing with disorders of the rectum, anus, and colon. The field is also known as proctology; however, this term is now used infrequently within medicine and is most often employed to identify practices relating to the anus and rectum in particular. As a colorectal surgeon, Dr. Moskowitz specializes in the preoperative, operative, and postoperative care of patients with colorectal disorders.

In his spare time, Dr. Moskowitz enjoys spending time with his family. They enjoy hiking, mountain climbing, and sailing the Atlantic Ocean. An accomplished pianist, Dr. Moskowitz is also a member of the New York Piano Society for Outstanding Amateurs.
