Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Richard D. Lim, who serves patients in Orland Park and Oak Lawn, Illinois.
An experienced orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Lim specializes in treatment of disorders of the cervical and lumbar spine and has a special interest in the treatment of workers’ compensation patients, spine deformity cases, and cervical disc disease. He is in practice with Midwest Orthopaedic Consultants, seeing patients at the offices in Orland Park and Oak Lawn, Illinois.
Midwest Orthopaedic Consultants represents the new way of delivering affordable, quality, and convenient orthopaedic care. The concept of this facility is to provide one of the few self-contained orthopaedic facilities in the nation, centered on assuring comfort and convenience for patients and their families. The experienced physicians and friendly staff provide high quality care and a comprehensive range of diagnostic, surgical and rehabilitative services to meet all orthopaedic needs. They provide both inpatient and outpatient surgical care and nonsurgical treatments such as bracing and injections.
In Illinois, Dr. Lim is affiliated with Palos Community Hospital, Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers, and Advocate Christ Medical Center. He is the Co-Director of the Bone and Joint Institute, Co-Director of the Spine Program, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Medical Staff at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Serving as a spine consultant for the Greeley Corporation, he has extensive experience in performing Independent Medical Evaluations (IMEs) and chart reviews. He also holds academic appointments at Drexel University and Midwestern University.
Pertaining to his educational background, Dr. Lim graduated from the Honors Program in Medical Education at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. He then completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at McGaw Medical Center in 1996. Upon graduation, he pursued specialized post-graduate fellowship training at the Spine Institute for Special Surgery in Louisville, Kentucky where he was extensively trained in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of spinal disorders.
Subsequent to his training, he attained board certification in orthopaedic surgery through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.
Since 1997, Dr. Lim has devoted his private practice solely to the treatment of orthopaedic surgery and specifically spinal problems. He has served on numerous committees, including the Pain Management Committee, the Medical Executive Committee, the Surgical Executive Committee, the Credentials Committee, the Performance Improvement Committee, and has special interest in Continuous Quality Improvement in the delivery of care to the spinal disorder patient. In addition, he has developed and pioneered the Minimally Invasive practices in his hospital and has presented on numerous topics at the local and national level.
Holding membership status, he is a member of the North American Spine Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
