Born in Damascus, Syria, Dr. Hakim received his Baccalaureate degree from the French Institute of Syria and his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine of Damascus University in 1987. He then participated in an active GI physiology research program at the Washington, D.C. Veterans Administration Medical Center in affiliation with Georgetown and George Washington Universities for four years.
Furthering his training, he completed his residency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Georgia Hospitals and Clinics in Augusta, Georgia. His fellowships in gastroenterology and hepatology, having started at the Medical College of Georgia, were completed at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York where he served as chief GI fellow. He then obtained additional training in advanced therapeutic endoscopy and transplant hepatology.
Proudly holding two board certifications, Dr. Hakim is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Licensed to practice medicine in multiple states, he is affiliated with Select Specialty Hospital-Pensacola, West Florida Hospital, and Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola.
