Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Jerry D. Fain, who serves patients in Austin, Texas. 

Dr. Fain is a hematologist-oncologist serving Austin and the surrounding communities. He is affiliated with Texas Oncology – a practice, founded in 1986, with more than 210 locations in Texas that believes patients deserve access to the best cancer care available, the confidence to fight cancer, and the critical support of their family and friends nearby. Their network is not a single institution. It is the driving passion of more than 460 physicians collectively focused on treating cancer and blood disorders with leading-edge technology and innovative research no matter where patients live. 

In 1987 Dr. Pain earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch . He went on to complete a residency at Methodist Medical Center in 1990 and a fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical School in 1994. 

Dr. Pain is an active member of the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Internal Medicine Medical Oncology, American Board of Internal Medicine Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Society of Hematology, American College of Physicians, Texas Medical Association, North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society, and Travis County Medical Society. 

Hematology-Oncology is a medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of blood diseases (hematology) and cancer (oncology) and research into them. As a hematologist-oncologist, Dr. Fain specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of blood diseases such as anemia, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia and lymphoma. 

With over 30 years of experience in the field, Dr. Fain has treated thousands of patients. He was recognized and awarded the “Jeweled Key Award” in cardiology in 1983 and has been published twice, in the “Society for Neuro-Oncology” in 2017 and the “Journal of Thoracic Oncology” in 2010.
