  • A glass pricked my foot and even after a month the spot hurts. What should I do?

Glass doesn’t show on an X-ray unless it is leaded glass. There is obviously some glass or a foreign body reaction still there. See a podiatrist who can remove it in the office under local or in an OR. READ MORE

  • What is the meaning of the term ballerina foot?

Ballerina foot is not medical terminology, but an observation of the damage caused by years of dancing en pointe. Toe contractures occur, bunion deformities develop, and eventually, arthritic changes occur very often. READ MORE

  • Why are my feet so crooked?

See a podiatrist. They may be able to stop the worsening or slow it down via foot orthotics or do the necessary surgery to correct what are probably hereditary deformities READ MORE

  • Can I run with flat feet?

I would seek out a Podiatrist who could make you customized foot orthotics that will improve your foot function during gait. OTC orthotics may provide some comfort, but will not provide optimal gait. READ MORE

  • There is a feeling of discomfort in my right foot. What could this be?

This is far too general a question to be answered Any physician would require much more detail to arrive at a diagnosis here. READ MORE

  • Why do I wake up with pain in my heels everyday?

It’s called plantar fasciitis, a problem I treat about 5 times a day. Google info about it online and get to your friendly neighborhood pidiatrist’s office. The longer you wait, the worse it gets. READ MORE

  • I have a painful, swollen ankle following an injury. What to do?

RICE- rest, ice, compression, elevation. Mild sprains can be healed in a week, severe ones 6 weeks with a cam walker. You need to get an X-ray done and be seen by a podiatrist for quality care. READ MORE

  • Do heel bone fractures require surgery?

Depends on the type and severity of the fracture, whether the joints were involved and much more. Impossible to determine without imaging results. READ MORE

  • What to do for swollen feet?

Compression stockings or a lymphedema pump can be helpful, but the patient should also see her physician to determine if medication is needed as well. READ MORE

  • Do store orthotics work?

Most over-the -counter foot orthotics are for comfort only; they do not correct for imbalance or malalignment of the foot during gait. The analogy I like to use is sunglasses vs. prescription glasses. If you need vision correction and you go outside in bright sunlight, are you going to go to the drugstore and buy a pair of Raybans? You could, and they would make your vision a bit more comfortable in the sunlight. However they wouldn't help you see clearly. That's why you would go to your optometrist and get a pair of prescription sunglasses so you would have comfort as well as good vision. The same holds true for custom podiatrist prescription orthotics vs OTC or shoe store foot orthotics. If you have foot pain or deformity, podiatrist ordered custom orthotics are far superior and less costly in the long run. READ MORE
