Get to know Family Medicine Physician Dr. J. Matthew Halverson, who serves the population of Virginia. Dr. Halverson completed his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia where he graduated with distinctions with a major in chemistry, followed by a Masters in Science Education. Furthering his education he graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the A.T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. After obtaining his degree he completed his family medicine residency with the Riverside Regional Medical Center. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine(ABFM). To stay up to date in his field he remains a professional member of the American Diabetes Association and the Virginia Academy of Family Medicine. He has also been recently recertified by the ABFM inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He currently practices independently with James River Family Practice,LLL which he founded 20 yrs ago and is affiliated with the Riverside Regional Medical Center. Family medicine is the medical specialty which provides continuing, comprehensive health care for the individual and family. It is a specialty in breadth that integrates biological, clinical and behavioral sciences. The scope of family medicine encompasses all ages, both sexes, each organ system, as well as every disease entity.
