Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Tamara Wyse, who serves patients in Northbrook, Illinois.

Dr. Wyse is a highly experienced, board-certified ophthalmologist with advanced fellowship degrees. She has performed more than 10,000 cataract surgeries and now does more than 1,000 cataract surgeries every year. She has been in practice on the Chicago North Shore since 1997, relocating to Northbrook in 2010.

Recognized as one of the first doctors on the Chicago North Shore to offer laser cataract surgery, Dr. Wyse uses a variety of lens implant options including multifocal, accommodating, extended range, and toric (astigmatism correcting) lens implants to help patients achieve greater independence from glasses. She is skilled in the medical, laser, and surgical treatment of glaucoma, including the newer minimally invasive glaucoma procedures.

Her practice, Wyse Eyecare, is fully equipped with advanced technology to diagnose and monitor glaucoma and other eye diseases. Dr. Wyse feels it is equally important, however, to communicate with patients so that they can fully understand their eye issues, treatment options, and preventive care strategies. She takes the time to get to know her patients and understand their concerns.

A 1991 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Dr. Wyse went on to perform her residency in ophthalmology at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. Advancing her training, she completed a fellowship in anterior segment surgery in Louisiana, followed by another fellowship year at Northwestern University to become a subspecialist in glaucoma.

In 2014, she undertook additional extensive training to incorporate dermal fillers and neuromodulators (such as Botox®) into the practice. She emphasizes a very natural look to rejuvenate and enhance the face and neck. She performs all of the cosmetic injections herself, feeling that her training as a physician and surgeon can help provide the best results for patients. She spends time with her patients to understand their goals, and customizes each treatment based on patient preferences, age, gender, and individual anatomy.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, Dr. Wyse is board-certified in ophthalmology through the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO). The ABO is an independent, nonprofit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists (eye physicians and surgeons) in the United States.

Committed to providing state-of-the-art care, she frequently attends meetings to be able to provide the best advances in care to her patients. She is a clinical instructor on the faculties of both Northwestern University Medical Center and the University of Chicago.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.

Having been named to the prestigious list of Castle Connolly Top Doctors every year since 2013, Dr. Wyse is the recipient of a number of awards and honors. These include: Patients’ Choice Award (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018), On-Time Doctor Award (2009, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018), Patients’ Choice 5th Anniversary Award (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020), Compassionate Doctor Award – 5 Year Honoree (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020), Top 10 Doctor – Metro Area (2014), Top 10 Doctor – State (2014),

A native of the Chicago North Shore, Dr. Wyse and her husband, Joseph Wyse, MD, continue to live in the area with their son and daughter.
