Well-versed in the field of orthopedic surgery, Dr. Battaglia works with patients at his private practice in Seattle, Washington. He has a special expertise in hip arthroscopy with cutting-edge techniques for labral repair and joint preservation. He helped to pioneer advanced techniques in shoulder surgery including arthroscopic repair of rotator cuff injuries, shoulder instability, dislocation, and management of shoulder arthritis with total joint replacement and impingement syndrome.

Throughout his academic career, he graduated from the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda in 1991. After completing his internship in Oakland, he served as a flight surgeon with the United States Marine Corps until completing his residency and training in orthopedics in San Diego in 1999. 

Subsequently, he completed a fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Cornell University in 2004, where he developed an interest and expertise in orthopedic shoulder surgery with expertise in hip, shoulder, and knee arthroscopy. This experience at the Hospital for Special Surgery focused on treating collegiate, Olympic, and professional athletes.

In pursuit of clinical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and spine surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

Professionally, Dr. Battaglia is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Western Orthopedic Association, and the Society of Military Orthopedic Association.

Among his other roles, he served as an orthopedic specialist at Bellevue Bone & Joint from 2009 to 2019 before going on to open his own practice. Prior to that, he was the Head Team Orthopedic Physician and Surgeon at the United States Naval Academy, and Orthopedic Staff Surgeon at the National Naval Medical Center. He also worked at Johns Hopkins University and the University of California, San Diego as a clinical instructor.

With a special passion for caring for student athletes, Dr. Battaglia donates his time as the team physician for the Issaquah High School football team. While at the Naval Academy he gained experience operating on a vast number of Division IA NCAA athletes. 

Proud of his military service, he is a retired Navy Captain (O-6) in the United States Navy and he has cared for and operated on US Navy SEALS, Force Recon Marines, and the men and women serving in the Navy/Marine Corps. He was the chief orthopedic consultant for the SEAL teams on the west coast.
