Get to know Hospitalist Dr. Payal Dinesh Parikh, who serves patients in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

An established hospitalist, Dr. Parikh serves as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Vice Chair of Quality and Safety at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, specializing in medical education and quality improvement, patient safety, and health systems science. Her focus areas include improvement in efficiency, transitions of care and improving communication at time of discharge.

In regards to her educational background, she obtained her medical degree from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 2010, before completing her residency in internal medicine at the Boston University Medical Center in 2013, where she served as Chief Resident.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Hospital medicine is a medical specialty that exists in some countries as a branch of internal or family medicine, dealing with the care of acutely ill hospitalized patients. The primary focus is caring for hospitalized patients and co-management with other specialties. Hospitalists take an active part in medical care and ensure a safe discharge for the patients they take care of. They are being increasingly involved in administrative roles, given their expertise and collaboration with various teams in the hospital.
