In 1996, he earned his medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, Virginia. He then went on to complete his internship and residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. This was followed by fellowship training in sports medicine, electrodiagnostic medicine, and physical medicine and rehabilitation at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
