Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Rachel C. Toney, who serves patients in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Toney is a practicing gastroenterologist with Allegheny Center for Digestive Health in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Center cares for a wide range of conditions affecting the liver and digestive tract using the latest diagnostic and treatment options. It is a part of the Allegheny Health Network.

A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Dr. Toney went on to complete her residency in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University. Wanting to further her training, she completed her fellowship in gastroenterology at West Penn Hospital, where she can now be found on staff. 

Following her education, the doctor became board-certified in gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.

Dedicated to her field, Dr. Toney received the 2018 Rising Star Award from the Gateway Medical Society on October 27, 2018. The award recognizes physicians and healthcare professionals who are early in their careers and have demonstrated leadership in the areas of community health and the reduction of health care disparities as well as clinical excellence.
