Dr. John Stoetzel is a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist practicing in Winston Salem, NC. Dr. Stoetzel specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions associated with the neuromusculoskeletal system, while improving each patients functionality and quality of life as a Board Certified Functional Neurologist. Dr. Stoetzel is Certified in Electrodiagnosis Medicine, conducting needle EMG and Nerve Conduction Velocity testing at his Clinic along with Digital X-rays and off-site MRI imaging to accurately diagnose neuromuscular conditions and diseases. He is Board eligible for a Fellowship in Vestibular Rehabilitation too. Currently he has Video Ocular Graphy and Posturography equipment on-site to aid in the diagnoses of Vestibular conditions that can have a peripheral (inner ear) or Central (Brainstem/Cerebellar) causation. Vertigo and dizziness along with visual disturbances and Neck pain or symptoms caused from Vestibular dysfunction. After proper diagnosis through a thorough Neurological Exam, Rehabilitation begins to re-train the Brain and lessen or eliminate these symptoms for the long term. At home exercises are also employed to attain lasting results.

How long after a chiropractic adjustment do you feel better?
It depends on if your pain is Acute (recent) or Chronic (been present for a long time). If the pain is recent, it may take a number of treatments to start to feel better. Although, usually patients do feel improved with Chiropractic Care within the first several weeks. I use a Chiropractic instrument to do the Adjustment on many of my patients. There is less post-treatment soreness, as it doesn’t cause any additional temporary inflammation. Whereas a manual (by hand) adjustment can increase inflammation initially. READ MORE

I do both traction and specific Chiropractic adjustments and get great results for patients suffering from a herniated disc. Flexion Distraction, which is a Chiropractic technique that uses a specific table, works well for this problem, naturally “pushing” the herniated disc back where it belongs. I would first let the Health Care provider know this who gave you the back injections. See what they say. In general though, injections have different effects on people. Can a chiropractor damage your spine?
Chiropractic adjustments are exceedingly safe. In my 30 years of busy practice giving hundreds of thousands of Chiropractic adjustments, I have never injured a patient. A key factor for this safety record is my Clinic also does a comprehensive Health history of our patients. Therefore, we “weed out” those patients that Chiropractic adjustments would be contradicted to do on them. People with certain collagen diseases like Ehler Danlos syndrome, or Spinal Fusion surgery; are examples of patients that Adjustments are contraindicated for.
