Throughout his academic career, he earned his medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine in 2002 and his Master of Business Administration degree from the Yale School of Management the same year. He then went on to complete his internship in health policy at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in Washington, D.C. in 2001, followed by his internship in the Department of General Surgery at Yale New Haven Hospital in 2003.
From 2003 until 2007, Dr. Covey completed his residency in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation at Yale New Haven Hospital, followed by his fellowship in elbow and sports medicine at Columbia University in New York City, New York in 2008. That same year, the doctor became board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.
