Back in 1987, Dr. Banez earned his medical degree from Manila Central University College of Medicine in the Philippines. Upon relocating to the United States, he went on to serve his residency in psychiatry and his fellowship in addiction psychiatry at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in New York.

With over three decades of experience in his field, the doctor is board-certified in psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting high-quality patient care for the public through the initial and continuing certification of psychiatrists and neurologists.
