What treatments are available for anemia?
It depends on the reason for the anemia. If it’s iron deficiency, then you need to take iron tablet or intervenous, and more importantly, to rule out any bleeding or cancer in the colon or stomach If anemia is due to bone marrow problem e.g. MDS, then you need to address that with either, chemotherapy or ESA shots that’s stimulate the bone marrow If they anemia is due to hemolysis, then may need to take steroids or to remove the spleen So there is no simple answer for this question. His philosophy emphasizes both the ethics and the individualized approach that he likes to be treated with. Dr. Mohtaseb understands that each patient is unique, physically and emotionally. A graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University in Cairo, one of the oldest medical schools in the world, Dr. Mohtaseb trained in internal medicine and hematology/oncology at Seton Hall University of West Orange, New Jersey.
His medical career started in Doha, Qatar where he served in the medical services of Hamad General Corporation before he began his four years of residency in internal medicine. In 1993, he continued his career in the United States, where he completed another two years of internal medicine training at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey. In 1995, he joined the fellowship of hematology and oncology at St. Joseph’s and St. Michael’s Medical Centers in Newark, New Jersey.
During his oncology fellowship, Dr. Mohtaseb participated in the first cord blood transplant in the state of New Jersey. He received the Gallo Award for Donor Lymphocyte Infusion in relapsed leukemia after allogeneic bone marrow transplant. In 2002, he was awarded Fellowship of the American College of Physicians (FACP), in recognition of his efforts and work in the medical oncology community.
A Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the doctor is board-certified in both internal medicine and medical oncology.
In 1999, Dr. Mohtaseb founded the Hematology Oncology Associates of North Jersey, LLC in Wayne, New Jersey and in 2006, he moved to Arizona where he joined Kingman Regional Medical Center’s (KRMC) Cancer Center. After spending 3 years with KRMC, he opened Dr. Mohtaseb – Cancer Center & Blood Disorders in Kingman, Arizona, in 2009.
Among his professional affiliations, he is a member of the American Society of Medical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Medical Association.
