A seasoned hematologist-oncologist, Dr. Rapson is the Founder of Red Cedar Oncology in East Lansing, Michigan.
In regards to her educational background, she graduated with her medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 1977, before completing her residency in internal medicine and her fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the same educational venue in 1980 and 1982, respectively.
Following her training, the doctor attained board certification in hematology, medical oncology, and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of cancer, malignant blood diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and blood disorders such as iron-deficiency anemia, clotting abnormalities, hemophilia, and sickle-cell disease.
On a more personal note, Dr. Rapson has two children of whom she is very proud. She and her family enjoy farm work, where they have horses, miniature donkeys, dogs and cats, many of which are rescue animals. As an alumni of Michigan State University, she remains a devoted Spartan.
