Media Releases

Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Hoshedar P. Tamboli, who serves patients throughout the State of Florida.

Awarded “Top Cardiologist 2020” in the area by Florida Magazine, Dr. Tamboli is one of Tampa Bay’s most accomplished and renowned cardiologists. He sees patients at Heart Vascular and Vein of Tampa Bay, operating at the offices in Brandon, Riverview, and Sun City Center, Florida.

He serves the community by practicing excellence in caring for his patients and treating their heart, vascular, and vein conditions with cutting-edge therapies. He is sought out regionally for his diagnostic acumen, his procedural skills, and his total dedication to patient care.

Graduating at the very top of his medical school class from B.J. Medical College in India in 1982, Dr. Tamboli relocated to the United States in pursuit of furthering his training. Once there, he served his residency in internal medicine at Weiss Memorial Hospital, followed by his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Sinai Samaritan Medical Center. During his year of training in interventional cardiology, he was involved in basic clinical research.

Prior to arriving in Tampa in 1992, he was Director of interventional Cardiology at Marshall University in West Virginia. He was involved with the very first coronary stent placed in Tampa (1993) and was a national proctor teaching other cardiologists countrywide the same techniques. Thereafter, he was involved as Primary investigator in a series of stent design trials. He also performed the first procedure in the Tampa Bay Area to open a clogged heart stent with radiation delivered into the stent in the heart.

Over the years, Dr. Tamboli pioneered peripheral interventions in the cardiac catheterization labs in Tampa and introduced many endovascular techniques in the county, including Fox Hollow atherectomy to remove plaque from clogged arteries in the legs. In 2003, he placed the very first drug-eluting stent in Hillsborough county.

Enjoying mentoring young medical students and physicians, he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine in Cardiology at the University of South Florida in Tampa. He is also Chairman of the Cardiology Departments at AdventHealth Tampa and Brandon Regional Hospital. In addition to treating complex coronary artery disease and endovascular procedures, including in the carotid arteries that go to the brain and aortic aneurysms in the catheterization lab, he performs office-based vein clinic procedures like vein ablation and varicose vein treatment.

Sought out nationally to be involved in cutting edge research protocols, Dr. Tamboli has participated as principal investigator or co-investigator in more than 105 trials over the last three decades, including the first 8 original stent design trials. He has many research papers and publications, including book chapters, to his credit.

As a testament to his success, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Recognized as the first cardiologist in the area to be elected a Fellow of the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI), Dr. Tamboli is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP), a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), and a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI).

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).

Beyond his medical career, Dr. Tambli enjoys technical analysis of securities and has passed the Comprehensive Test of the Board of Certified Financial Planners. He has traveled widely internationally and enjoys understanding different cultures. In his free time, he spends time with his family, watches sports, and enjoys reading (especially regarding spiritual pursuits). He is blessed with a wife and three children who are pursuing their own professional paths.

Above all, he is proud of the “Care” he has been able to provide to his patients over the last three decades. He promises to live up to his motto of “Patient First Always”.
