Get to know Psychiatrist Murali Rao, MD who serves patients in Illinois.

A seasoned psychiatrist, Dr. Rao runs his private practice in Wheaton, Oak Park, Hinsdale, and Chicago, Illinois, treating patients suffering from wide ranging concerns such as mood disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, somatoform disorder, seasonal affective disorder and panic attacks, among others. He also serves as an Affiliate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Loyola University of Chicago.

With a broad educational background, he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from Mysore Medical College in India in 1973. Upon relocating to the United States, he completed a residency in psychiatry at Southern Illinois University in 1978. 

An expert in his field, the doctor is board-certified in psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology. 

Owing to his skills and expertise, Dr. Rao has been recognized as a Fellow of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (FACLP), and a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (DLFAPA). He is also an active member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and is a Fellow of the American Board of Addiction Medicine. He has more than 80 publications credited under his name and has authored 6 books.

Psychiatry is the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders. These include various maladaptations related to mood, behavior, cognition, and perceptions. Psychiatrists evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
