    Panic and back pain are rather non-specific symptoms and are certainly not specifically connected to Parkinson's disease. Having said that pain and panic attacks are very common in PD, these symptoms also may be the initial warning signs, but considering they are common among people that do not have PD, the chance that these symptoms are the first signs of PD is very low, in the absence of other signs more specifically pointing to PD (such as resting tremor, slowness, stiffness, loss of facial expression, balance problems).     Hi, this is most commonly due to benign fasciculation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fasciculation) - essentially some motor neurons get sick or die (which happens all the time in healthy people too) and others next to them take over their innervation area, the muscles become over-sensitive and produce this phenomena, which can also be driven by aberrant signal through the motor nerves. If that persists for more than a few weeks, continues to expand, present in multiple different body parts or is associated with other symptoms such as weakness (in the affected area or elsewhere), medical attention should be sought. If the twitches are becoming spasms of the muscles around the eye and even larger parts of the face, it can also be a sign of so-called "hemifacial spasm". READ MORE

Get to know Neurologist Dr. Zoltan Mari, who serves patients in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A knowledgeable neurologist, Dr. Mari is the Ruvo Family Chair for Parkinson’s Disease & Movement Disorders Research at the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health – Las Vegas, joining the faculty in 2017.

Academically, he graduated first in his class at the Szeged University School of Medicine in Hungary before completing a post-doctoral fellowship at SUNY Downstate on Parkinson’s disease (PD) animal models and electrophysiology. He finished his residency in neurology at the same educational institution, where he also served as Chief Resident and was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

After his clinical fellowships in both movement disorders and clinical neurophysiology at the National Institute of Health, Dr. Mari joined the faculty at Johns Hopkins University, where he was promoted to Associate Professor and then appointed to serve as Director of the PD & Movement Disorder Division and Center, which has grown markedly under his leadership, including many successful hires and establishing a DBS Center and a clinical fellowship program.

As a testament of his continued education, the doctor is board-certified in neurology and clinical neurophysiology at the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.

In his professional experience, he is a co-founder of Neuraly, Inc. which is developing a revolutionary disease modifying treatment for PD. He has published 70 peer-reviewed papers, authored multiple book chapters, and created nationally recognized CME programs.
