Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Hoffman graduated with his medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans in 1988. He then went on to serve his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at the said establishment, followed by a joint replacement fellowship at Rothman Institute of Thomas Jefferson University. He also received special training at the Hughston Sports Medicine Clinic in Columbus, Georgia.
Certified in Oxford partial knee replacements and trained in anterior approach total hip replacement, the doctor is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Hoffman is a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society, the Southern Medical Association, the Orleans Parish Medical Society, the Hughston Sports Medicine Society, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Clinical Orthopaedic Society, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Providing medical care to high school and professional sports athletes, Dr. Hoffman served as a team physician for the professional basketball team in New Orleans (then called the New Orleans Hornets) from 2002-2004. He also served as an associate team physician for the New Orleans Saints, and was the team physician for Isidore Newman High School.
