Holding Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees in Neurobiology and Physiology from Northwestern University in Evanston/Chicago, Dr. Goldberger went on to obtain a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University in 1995.  He went on to a traditional internship and completed his residency in neurological surgery in Metro Detroit through the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Lansing.

He emphasizes a conservative practice philosophy in treating patients.  The doctor is board-certified in neurological surgery by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery, which is the national osteopathic organization that provides board certification to qualified DOs who specialize in the use of surgery to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
