Get to know Pulmonologist Dr. Sixto Arias, who serves the population of Florida.

Dr. Arias is a Pulmonologist currently practicing with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he holds expertise in interventional pulmonology, pulmonary medicine, and critical care medicine. 

Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center opened in 1992 to provide comprehensive cancer services to the South Florida community. Together with the 40-bed inpatient hospital, UMHC – University of Miami Hospital & Clinics, Sylvester serves as the cancer diagnosis, treatment, and research hub for UHealth – University of Miami Health System.

In regards to his education, he graduated with his medical degree from the Universidad El Bosque Escuela Colombiana de Medicina in 2001. He then began his training by completing his internal medicine residency through Lincoln Medical & Mental Health Center in 2009. He then completed his Pulmonary fellowship with Yale University/Bridgeport Hospital in 2011 followed by his Critical Care Medicine fellowship in 2012 and a Pulmonary fellowship with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2015. 

An expert in his field he is certified in Critical Care Medicine and Pulmonary Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine. ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Internal Medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of adult diseases. Internists are skilled in the management of patients who have undifferentiated or multi-system disease processes.
