Get to know Pain Management Specialist Dr. Timothy Mims, who serves patients in Lexington, Kentucky.

Dr. Mims is a pain management specialist who is currently serving patients at Vitality Pain Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Vitality Pain Center provides life-changing, intelligent, long-term and comprehensive pain treatments. The main objective of the Center is to reduce the risks to patients while maximizing their quality of life.

Dr. Mims specializes in the treatment of a wide variety of pain conditions. He is particularly interested in neuromodulation for the treatment of various neuropathic pain conditions, including complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS)/reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), phantom pain, and peripheral neuropathy.

Dr. Mims earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his residency in anesthesia at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, followed by his fellowships in pain management at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital (Cornell), and Hospital for Special Surgery.

Dr. Mims is the recipient of the Castle Connolly Magazine’s Top Doctor Award.

Dr. Mims is double board-certified in anesthesiology and interventional pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA). The ABA is one of the 24 medical specialty boards that constitutes the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). The mission of the ABA is to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology.

Pain medicine is a medical specialty that focuses on the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of pain. A pain management specialist, also known as a pain doctor or a pain specialist, is a medical doctor (M.D.) or doctor of osteopathy (D.O.) who specializes in pain medicine. They specialize in the management of pain as a symptom of disease (eudynia) and primary pain disorders (maldynia). Furthermore, they treat patients who experience pain related to a specific cause (e.g., cancer pain, injury, postoperative pain) and patients who suffer pain as a primary condition (e.g., frequent headaches, neuropathic pain).

In his spare time, Dr. Mims enjoys spending time with his family, wrestling with his dog, and working in the yard. Being an avid cyclist and runner, he has completed two IronMan triathlons.
