Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Daniel Sambursky, who serves patients in New York.

An innovator and pioneer in the field of vision correction surgery, Dr. Sambursky was one of the first surgeons in the United States to offer LASIK. Now recognized as one of the most highly trained and experienced LASIK surgeons in the country, he sees patients at his private practice, Sambursky Laser Eye Center, located in Johnson City, New York.

He is the first cataract surgeon in New York’s Southern Tier to offer the advanced LenSx technology and is the only doctor in Binghamton offering this advanced technology. He is also the first eye surgeon in this region to perform: IntraLase for LASIK surgery, cataract surgery with the Restor lens and Toric IOL, DSEK corneal transplant surgery, and Verisyse lens surgery for myopia correction.

“As a laser and cataract surgeon, I value the precious gift of sight. After undergoing the LASIK procedure, I gained a true insight of the needs of any patient undergoing ocular surgery. My staff and I are dedicated to providing our patients with the highest quality eye care and state-of-the-art laser vision correction.” as stated by the ophthalmologist.

With over two decades of experience performing and optimizing his surgical techniques, Dr. Sambursky and his team have performed over 30,000 patients in the Binghamton area. They have made it as safe, easy, and effective as possible for patients to undergo life-changing LASIK surgery by investing in cutting-edge equipment. They only use the WaveLight EX-500 Excimer Laser, which guarantees a higher success rate and a quicker procedure, giving each patient the peace of mind that comes with knowing they are in capable hands.

Utilizing the most advanced technology available to aid each patient in attaining their visual goals and minimizing their dependency on glasses or contact lenses, Dr. Sambursky was one of the first doctors in New York to offer AcrySof ReSTOR, Crystalens, Tecnis Multifocal, Tecnis Symfony Lens and Acrysof IQ Toric Lens options for enhanced uncorrected postoperative vision. He was also one of the first to incorporate Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgeries (MIGS), such as iStent and CyPass Micro-Stent, into his practice allowing cataract patients with glaucoma to take advantage of these modern pressure-lowering technologies at the same time as their cataract surgery.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the doctor is board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, which is an independent, non-profit organization responsible for certifying ophthalmologists in the United States of America.

In order to stay up to date in his field, he remains a member of the American Medical Association,  the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators.

Pertaining to his educational background, Dr. Sambursky earned his medical degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University in 1990. He went on to complete his internship in internal medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital, followed by his residency in ophthalmology and ocular surgery at Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital, where he had the honor of being unanimously elected to serve as Chief Resident. He continues to teach many doctors from the United States and abroad his vision correction surgical techniques and has ophthalmology patients from around the country and around the world that seek his expertise in LASIK vision correction surgery.

With a pursuit of excellence and perfection making him a leader in the field of LASIK vision correction and refractive surgery, Dr. Sambursky has designed and patented an intraocular lens, which is used to replace the human crystalline lens during cataract surgery. He has also designed a few surgical instruments that may be used during vision correction eye surgery. In addition, he was one of the first vision correction surgeons in the United States to remove a cataract with a laser by using a technique known as laser photolysis.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.
