Dr. Patel received his Bachelor of Science cum Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 1983 at Government Medical College Gujarat in his native country, India. After relocating to the United States, he completed an internship and internal medicine residency at Overlook Hospital in Summit, New Jersey (1989 – 1993). Moreover, he conducted a pediatric gastroenterology fellowship at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, followed by a gastroenterology fellowship at Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois (1997 – 2000). 

Licensed to practice in the states of Texas, Dr. Patel is board-certified in internal medicine and the subspecialty of gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
