Dr. Lizotte earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Ohio in 1989. He then went on to complete his internship and residency in internal medicine at the California Presbyterian Medical Center in San Francisco, serving as chief resident in 1992. Dr. Lizotte has served as a Major in the United States Army Reserve. Dr. Lizotte is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Nuclear Medicine, and the American Board of Radiology.

In 2007, Dr. Lizotte was named a top physician in Orange County California by the Orange County Medical Association. He was appointed to the Radiologic Health Branch of the California Department of Health Services by then-Governor Gray Davis.
