Joining Northwest Georgia Oncology Centers in December 2013, his impact was immediately felt within the medical community. His formative years were spent honing his skills at St. Mary’s Health Center / St. Louis University, where he completed his internship and residency in 2004.

Following this period, he embraced a role as a junior faculty member in the Department of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. Here, his responsibilities spanned patient management and resident education, encompassing the nuanced realms of general medicine and oncology.

Subsequently, Dr. Kirkel’s journey of intellectual and professional growth culminated in the successful completion of his fellowship at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. in 2009. This pivotal phase endowed him with the comprehensive insights needed to approach complex cases with expertise and compassion. His pursuit of excellence led him to a private practice in Boynton Beach, FL, where he provided personalized care to patients battling cancer.

Dr. Kirkel is board-certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Intrinsically tied to his professional philosophy is a dedication to the advancement of cancer treatment and research. Dr. Kirkel is actively engaged in cancer research and clinical trials, seeking not only to alleviate the suffering of his patients but also to contribute to the broader pursuit of a cure. Serving as a Principal Investigator of the William S. Gibbons Cancer Research Institute, he pursues innovative strategies to combat this disease.
