Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Maria-Andreea Catana, who serves patients in Boston, Massachusetts. 

Dr. Catana is a gastroenterologist who is board-certified in both gastroenterology and transplant hepatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. She can be found on staff at the Liver Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. 

The Liver Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center brings together an exceptional team of multidisciplinary providers to offer personalized care and the most advanced treatment options to patients with a variety of liver conditions. In addition to her clinical role, Dr. Catana serves as an Instructor of Gastroenterology at Harvard Medical School. 

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after she earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Science, and Technology of Târgu Mureș in Romania. She then went on to complete her internship at Iuliu Hațieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Cluj-Napoca before relocating to the United States. There, she completed her internship and residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. This was followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology at UC Davis Medical Center and a fellowship in transplant hepatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in 2012 and 2014, respectively. 

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. A gastroenterologist is a physician who has extensive training in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders related to the esophagus, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary system.
