After receiving his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences from the University of Florida, Dr. Appell continued his education at the University of Florida College of Medicine where he ranked in the top percentile of his class. He then attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine where he completed his general surgery internship, orthopedic surgery residency, and microvascular surgery residency.
With a desire to continually refine his skills and expertise, the doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.
Serving the interests of his industry, Dr. Appell is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Jefferson County Medical Society, the Jefferson County Orthopedic Society, the Alabama State Medical Association, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the American Medical Association.
