With a broad educational background, Dr. Bergqvist graduated with his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in 1994. He then went on to perform his residency in general surgery at Yale University (Hospital of St. Raphael campus), where he served as chief resident in 1999.
From there, he performed his hand and microsurgery fellowship at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in 2000, followed by his residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Duke University, where he served as chief resident in 2002.
Dr. Bergqvist comes to Erie, Pennsylvania from Sweden, bringing with him the skill and academic excellence of the country that awards the Nobel Prize. He came to the United States to study medicine and landed residencies with the most distinguished of university hospitals. That training provided him the skill and knowledge to perform complicated, state-of-the-art surgery in the field of plastic and microvascular reconstruction and cosmetic surgery.
Serving as a clinical teacher for a Residency program from 2002-2016, his graduates still seek him today for continued guidance with surgery.
Passionate about his profession, the doctor is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He is also a proud member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Robert H. Ivy Pennsylvania Plastic Surgery Society, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
