  • Do I need to use a denture adhesive?

The answer to your question is: it depends. There are many factors that go into how a denture fits. A denture that fits well, and was made well has what we call good retention. That means the denture will stay in place without adhesive. However, if a patient doesn't have enough bone or a well-developed ridge, the bone holds the denture, then a little bit of adhesive might be used to help secure the denture to the ridge. Only use a little bit of adhesive or else you will forever change the fit of the denture and have to wear adhesive all the time. It is always best to learn how to wear the denture without adhesive. Wearing dentures successfully without adhesive can be done if you train your muscles and tongue to keep the denture in place and not dislodge them. [cid:6f0e69ba-9ae6-4cb8-9e72-a3fc86b1c438] Kyle S. • Can you have an implant without a bone graft?

Yes an implant can be placed without a bone graft ,if there is sufficient height and width of bone present. Often a graft is placed in conjunction with the extraction of a tooth to insure that the proper amount of bone is available for a future implant. Sometimes it is possible to place an implant immediately in the extraction socket and only graft the space around the implant. READ MORE

  • Should you have a root canal before getting a dental bridge?

No, a bridge or crown does not need a root canal prior to placement. In fact, in the case of a bridge, the long term prognosis for the bridge survival is greatly diminished if one of the teeth that holds the bridge has a root canal. READ MORE

  • How long should you wear dentures each day?

Dentures are intended to be replacements for the natural tissues in the mouth that are no longer present; the gum and bone that support the teeth and the teeth themselves. Therefore, comfortable dentures should be worn all day long, removed at night and cleaned thoroughly. Many dentists advise patients to leave their dentures out at night to allow the tissues to rest and because grinding of the teeth (dentures) at night can be destructive to the remaining bone in the jaws, thus, affecting the fit and "hold" of future dentures. However, in the past 10 years there has been concerns about removing dentures at night because of Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) or Sleep Apnea. To maintain an airway dentures may be necessary to be worn at night. I hope that helps. Please consult your Physician and dentist with regards to your question to decide what is right for you. • Do dead teeth fall out?

That is a very interesting question. Thank you for asking. The first important thing is to determine if the tooth is dead. That is usually done by testing the tooth for what dentist’s call vitality, or being alive. This is done by applying something cold like ice to the tooth. There are many other tests that can be done. The short answer, is, No, bad teeth did not just fall out of your head. Sometimes they can stay there for a very long time without anyone knowing they are dead. Other times they simply break and rock out. A lot of times, they rot and caused an abscess. I hope that helps. READ MORE

The team of dedicated dental professionals at New Outlook Dental Center strive to provide state-of-the-art gentle dental care in a relaxed, comfortable environment. The philosophy at New Outlook Dental Center is “We take the time to Care”, to listen to and understand the patient’s individual concerns and help them consider all of the options of treatment. The focus is on working with patients to ensure they achieve their health and esthetic goals. Conservation of tooth structure and excellence are the cornerstones that the practice is built upon.

General dentistry: fillings, root canals, gold, porcelain crowns and onlays. Veneers and whitening are the hallmark of a custom cosmetic smile design. You will benefit from the most up to date technology such as digital radiography, 3 dimensional x-rays that are very low in radiation, and intra oral camera so you can see what doctor can see.

There have been many exciting changes in dentistry since Dr. Schulz graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1986. He is a dedicated lifelong student continually educating himself in the latest advancements in the profession. Dr. Schulz is the incoming president of the Academy of Operative Dentistry, member of American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, board member of the International Academy of Gnathology, Fellow of Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD), member of Colorado Dental Association (CDA), Colorado Prosthodontic Society, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, RAZA and Southern Colorado Study Clubs.

Dr. Schulz passion for dentistry developed because he wanted to work with people to create health. Dentistry was a great way to combine his interest in science with his artistic abilities. “It is very gratifying to see the immediate result of a smiling happy patient.”

Patients have excellent experiences with him, one stating, “Dr. Schulz took on a pretty big project when I came in for a consult, as I required quite a bit of work and I was on a fixed budget. Rather than turning me away, as my own family dentist did, he worked out a plan to maximize the dental care I would receive with the budget I was on. I was amazed at how personable he and his wife are, they really are great people who are trying to do a good thing.”
