Get to know Endocrinologist Dr. Ripu S. Hundal, who serves patients in Delaware.

Dr. Ripu Hundal is a well-known Endocrinologist, who specializes in diagnosing, and treating diseases related to hormonal deficiency and imbalance in the Endocrine system. He is currently the Director of First State Endocrinology, providing top-notch Endocrine care to his patients at offices in Newark and Middletown, Delaware. 

He has been in the Delaware area since 2001. He serves as an Education Coordinator in the Department of Endocrine, Residency Program, Internal Medicine at Christiana Care Hospital. He is also the Director of the Nutrition Program at United Medical ACO.

In 1987, Dr. Hundal obtained his medical degree from Government Medical College in Amritsar, India. Upon relocating to the United States, he went on to complete his internship and residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, in 1994 and 1996, respectively. This was followed by Endocrine fellowship at Yale-New Haven Hospital, Connecticut in 1999. He stayed on at Yale University for two more years before finally moving to Delaware in 2001.

He is currently board-certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Nominated for Top Doctors in Delaware and Greater Philadelphia Area numerous times, Dr. Hundal is a member of the American Diabetes Association, the Endocrine Society, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (former Board member of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter), and the Medical Society of Delaware. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology (FACE).

Endocrinology is a branch of medicine dealing with the Endocrine system, its diseases, and its specific secretions known as hormones. Endocrinologists have the training to diagnose and treat hormonal imbalances, deficiencies, or over secretion of hormones in the body. The common diseases and disorders of the Endocrine system that Endocrinologists deal with include diabetes mellitus, adrenal, pituitary, bone disorders, reproductive disorders, weight disorders, cholesterol problems, polycystic ovary syndrome, and thyroid issues, among others. 

An expert in his field, Dr. Hundal has authored and co-authored articles published in peer-reviewed journals such as Diabetes, the New England Journal of Medicine, Practical Diabetology, Drugs, and the Journal of Clinical Investigation. Likewise, he is a frequent invited lecturer and presenter at local and national conferences.
