Get to know General Surgeon Dr. Peter Mowschenson, who serves patients in Brookline, Massachusetts. 

Recognized as one of America’s Top Surgeons in thyroid and parathyroid surgery & general surgery, Dr. Mowschenson is affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess HealthCare-Brookline in Massachusetts.

Alongside his clinical role, Dr. Mowschenson serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. He has held this role for well over 30 years. 

In regards to his educational background, he earned his medical degree from the University of London Faculty of Medicine. This was followed by an internship at Guy’s Hospital, a residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and a fellowship at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.

Among his various achievements, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery, which is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

In order to stay up to date in his field, Dr. Mowschenson remains a member of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, the Boston Surgical Society, the Massachusetts Medical Society, and the New England Surgical Society. 

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care. 

Renowned in the medical community for his commitment to his patients and his expertise when performing surgery using the latest technology and medical advancements, Dr. Mowschenson’s research has been published in internationally respected, peer-reviewed medical journals. He also lectures on thyroid and parathyroid surgery.
