His work was instrumental in enhancing clinical outcomes, with launch of a new ACL Assessment Unit, Sports Concussion Program (a first in the Middle East), Muscle Injury Assessment Unit, Elite and International Athlete Care programs (prompting a 60% rise in international athletic patients in 2018), as well as the consolidation of 20+ satellite sports medical clinics into the hospital. Dr. Gillogly previously founded Atlanta Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center, serving as President and CEO for a renowned organization centered on high standards of patient care and rehabilitating athletes for return to competition, with a center of excellence including an AAAHC-accredited ambulatory Surgery Center, Physical Therapy, and Sports Rehabilitation Center. During his tenure at Atlanta Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center, he was appointed as Team Physician and Orthopedic Surgeon for the Atlanta Falcons NFL Club and Atlanta Thrashers NHL Club, as well as Team Physician of the Atlanta Braves MLB Club. He also spearheaded sports medicine training for 75+ orthopedic surgery residents from Atlanta Medical Center and built an ACGME-accredited Sports Medicine and Cartilage Restoration Fellowship that educated 12 specialized Fellows. His focus on excellence served as the basis for a well-received outpatient total knee arthroplasty program, obtaining dual goals of revenue growth and decreased health care costs.
The doctor is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons. He then went on to obtain his medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine, after which he completed his surgical internship and residency in orthopedic surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Following this, he completed his fellowship at the Alabama Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Center and American Sports Medicine Institute.
Among his hospital appointments, Dr. Gillogly served as Medical Director of Orthopedic Research, Chief of Amputee Service, and Chief of Orthopedic Surgery Service at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. He served a tour in the first Gulf War as the Chief of Orthopedics and Head Triage Officer at an evacuation hospital in Saudi Arabia.
His additional academic appointments included Chief of Staff at West Paces Medical Center, Clinical Instructor within the Department of Orthopedics for University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and Clinical Assistant Professor within the Department of Surgery at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
