  • Both feet are swollen?

The meniscus surgery would ad to the edema of the rest of the limb and you would expect that that limb would have greater swelling than the other limb However swelling of both limbs should be investigated wit a non invasive peripheral vascular examination which is a screening of the arteries and veins of both lower extremities looking for stenosis or blockage of the arterial vessels or venous insufficiency or blockage in the venous system thrombophlebitis Further evaluation and treatment is advised after this initial in office exam This should include examination of the heart as you can be walking around with a heart attack and no other symptoms than pitting edema in the feet and ankles Kidney or liver disease needs to be ruled out with a blood test Elevation and compression with support hose stockings can be helpful if arteries are not compromised and may be all that is necessary So you need to be evaluated by a doctor who can run these tests as a delay could result in death if it involves a major organ Plan for the worst possible scenario and hope for the best Do not delay an evaluation especially with other symptoms like shortness of breath or unable to lye flat in bed and need of sleeping with multiple pillows to prop up the head Jan David Tepper DPM,FACFAS CEO Family Foot & Ankle Center 984 West Foothill Boulevard, Suite B Upland, California 91786 O 909-920-0884 F 909/920-9810 WWW.drtepper.com JDTDPM@aol.com READ MORE

  • How long should you keep your foot elevated after an ankle sprain?

Elevation and ice after an ankle sprain is to control pain and swelling If pain and swelling persists you should rethink the diagnosis as it may not be the correct diagnosis This should only be necessary for a few hours to a couple of days depending on the severity of the injury If the pain and swelling isn’t improved significantly in 3-4 days and not completely gone in a week likely not a sprain it may be a fracture or partial or even a full tear of one or more ligaments and/or joint capsule if the x-ray is still negative after 3 weeks Jan David Tepper DPM,FACFAS CEO Family Foot & Ankle Center 984 West Foothill Boulevard, Suite B Upland, California 91786 O 909-920-0884 F 909/920-9810 WWW.drtepper.com JDTDPM@aol.com READ MORE

That would depend on the extent of the surgery and your ability to control the pain with oral medication as well as other medical conditions that may need to be controlled in a hospital setting following the procedure. • Bent ankles?

From your description of your concerns it sounds like you need a prescription orthotic device that would align your heel under your leg eliminating the bulge below the ankle and line up your foot to the lower leg This is a prescription device made by a foot doctor from a cast of your foot held on the most stable position that could be taken from shoe to shoe to help improve function by improving alignment of the bones and relaxing the soft tissue structures and addressing pain and discomfort as well Jan David Tepper DPM,FACFAS CEO Family Foot & Ankle Center 984 West Foothill Boulevard, Suite B Upland, California 91786 O 909-920-0884 F 909/920-9810 WWW.drtepper.com JDTDPM@aol.com READ MORE

  • MRI Results

Diagnosis is not made by diagnostic tests alone. Diagnosis is made following history of the problem medical exam as well as diagnostic tests Diagnostic tests are subject to technique in taking the test and interpretation of the test If there is a question as to the diagnosis further diagnostic tests as well as a redo of the test at the same or another facility or have the test evaluated by another doctor who may have different experiences and training and come up with a different impression Sometimes it isn’t the test it is the treatment plan that helps confirm or change the diagnosis or the symptomatic result, as many times MRI may not show fracture or tear however this doesn’t mean immobilization with a cam walker or even a cast isn’t indicated and still the best course of conservative care prior to electing more aggressive surgical options Jan David Tepper DPM,FACFAS CEO Family Foot & Ankle Center 984 West Foothill Boulevard, Suite B Upland, California 91786 O 909-920-0884 F 909/920-9810 WWW.drtepper.com JDTDPM@aol.com READ MORE

  • Bunion operation?

  • Planters wart?

First and foremost you need to get the correct diagnosis as a differential from pressure lesion which has an entirely different treatment plan from a viral infection in the skin. Than the size matters as very small lesions May respond to acid treatments that are sold in the stores where some lesions become more resistant if that is attempted. Seeing a podiatrist is your best bet although some dermatologists have more experience in this area than others. There are many treatments however I prefer surgical excision which is done in the office under a local anesthetic. This can be done in conjunction with techniques to enhance the immune system or create a blister to shed the lesion with some layers of skin. If you do something on your own the success varies you could get lucky and you could get unlucky and develop more pain and disability. • Is my toe fine or do I need to go to the doctor? (would prefer not to)

If you don’t have any pain just keep an eye on it. It may take a few months for the nail to grow out and if not painful the new mail growing in will tell you how much damage has been done. If it grows back healthy this could take 6 months to a year to be sure but in any event, going to the doctor will not change anything and unless there is something you want to be changed there is no need to see a doctor Jan David Tepper, DPM, FACFAS CEO Family Foot & Ankle Center 984 West Foothill Boulevard, Suite B Upland, California 91786 O 909-920-0884 F 909/920-9810 WWW.drtepper.com JDTDPM@aol.com READ MORE

  • Sprained ankle?

If you do weight-bearing without pain then you need to treat this with immobilization. Initially with a pneumatic boot cast covered by insurance If still painful to walk and not getting better need a below-the-knee cast Then if still painful MRI to see if there is a ligament or tendon tear and be non-weight-bearing in cast and crutches until you can walk without pain. See a specialist now as they will cover all costs including the surgery if necessary and if not treated properly it may become necessary.
