Get to know Ophthalmologist Dr. Augustine Kellis, who serves patients throughout the State of Ohio.

Dr. Kellis is a well-respected, board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained oculoplastic surgeon with over 25 years experience. He has performed over 20,000 intraocular procedures and over 80,000 eyelid procedures, oculoplastic procedures, and facial plastic surgical procedures. 

In his current capacity, he serves as the Founder and CEO of Kellis Eye and Laser Center in Chardon, Ohio. The mission of the Center is to ensure patients the best possible vision performance by providing the highest quality vision and eye health care possible in a comfortable and professional environment.

In his practice, Dr. Kellis encountered many patients with acute macular degeneration. After researching available products on the market, he felt none met the total needs of the Acute macular degeneration patient. Thus, he developed his own – Nature’s Eye Vitamins®. The product is made from natural ingredients, without the use of any animal byproducts or preservatives. It contains ingredients based on the latest scientific research. 

In addition to his role at Kellis Eye and Laser Center, Dr. Kellis serves as the President and Managing Partner of the Chardon Surgery Center, and as the Director of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Eye Care Associates in Youngstown, Ohio. He is also an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve University and an Assistant Clinical Professor at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

Furthermore, he is the Founder of the St. Michael’s Eye Program, which provides eye care services to anyone in need at no cost. This program was established twenty-five years ago and has served the needs of thousands of patients in northern Ohio. 

After earning his medical degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Kellis went on to complete his residency in ophthalmology at the Mount Sinai Hospital in Cleveland, where he served as chief resident. The completion of his formal education was the Tenzel oculoplastic surgical fellowship in Miami, Florida. 

Board-certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology, the doctor is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also a member of the Cleveland Ophthalmological Society and the Ohio Ophthalmological Society. 

Recently, Dr. Kellis was honored as the Eagle Vision Award recipient. This award is given by the charity, Sight for All, to the one eye care professional in northern Ohio who has provided the most charitable services over the course of a year. In addition, he serves on the Board of the Geauga Hunger Task Force, helping to organize over six hundred thousand free meals given to the families of Geauga County on a yearly basis.

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery. 

Aside from providing state-of-the-art care for his patients, Dr. Kellis, a former accomplished amateur bodybuilder, still engages in weight training and cardiovascular exercise, including cycling and power yoga. He enjoys traveling, jet skiing, boating, snorkeling, and scuba diving.
