Get to know Cardiac Electrophysiologist Dr. Douglas R. Moore, who serves the population of Michigan. Dr. Moore graduated from the Des Moines University, College of Osteopathic Medicine with his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine in 1996, giving him over two decades of experience in his field. After obtaining his degree he completed his internal medicine residency with the Garden City Osteopathic Hospital and a cardiology residency with the Garden City Osteopathic Hospital. Wanting to further his training he completed his Cardiac Electrophysiology fellowship with the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Dr. Moore is tri-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Electrophysiology. To stay up to date in his field he remains a professional member of the American Osteopathic Association and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Moore currently practices with Ascension Heart Rhythm Institute. He is the past Director of Electrophysiology Services at St. Luke’s Hospital. He is also affiliated with Beaumont Grosse Pointe, St. John Hospital and Medical Center, Detroit and St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospitals. He holds an expertise in electrophysiology including pacemaker and defibrillator implantations; ablations for the treatment of arrhythmias; and medication management for patients with arrhythmias. Cardiac electrophysiologists focus on your heart’s timing, or electrical, system and on diagnosing and treating irregular heartbeats or arrhythmias. Electrophysiologists are qualified to perform special tests of your heart’s electrical system, such as an electrophysiology study or an ablation. In addition, this heart doctor can implant a pacemaker or a defibrillator, which is similar to a pacemaker but can shock your heart back into rhythm should you need it.
