Get to know Cardiologist Dr. Veeranna C. Merla, who serves patients throughout the State of New York.

Dr. Merla is a highly-trained cardiologist with Northern Medical Group, operating out of the offices in Brewster, Carmel, Fishkill, and Mahopac, New York.

In collaboration with Northwell Health, Dr. Merla also offers his services at Northwell Health Physician Partners Cardiology at Yorktown Heights, and is affiliated with Northern Westchester Hospital.

His acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery Degree from JJM Medical College, Davangere in India. He then relocated to the United States, performing his residency in internal medicine at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Patterson, New Jersey.

Furthering his training, Dr. Merla completed two fellowships in advanced cardiac imaging and cardiology at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York.

Affiliated with several professional organizations, he is an active member of the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography, and the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology.

Furthermore, Dr. Merla is board certified in cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
