Dr. Elizabeth Chiang is an Opthalmologist and fellowship trained Oculoplastic surgeon practicing in Painesville, Ohio at Ice Ophtalmology. She graduated with honors from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in Pasadena, Earning a BS in Engineering and Applied Sciences. She then attended the Medical Scientist Training Program at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, earning her medical degree and PhD in Neuroscience.

She completed her internship in preliminary medicine at Akron General Medical Center before starting her Ophthalmology residency at Northwestern University. Elizabeth completed a two year fellowship in Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Eye Institute at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in Milwaukee. 

Dr. Chiang loves to travel and has been to over 40 countries and 6 continents. She hopes to go to Antarctica soon (the trip was canceled due to the COVID pandemic). She has also traveled to 48 of the 50 states. She is also an avid photographer, which goes hand and hand with her love of travel. When she’s closer to home, Dr. Chiang enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and kayaking.

    Most people do not have pain after cataract surgery. If you are having pain, there are multiple possible causes of pain to the eye after cataract surgery. Your eye pressure may be high, this is checked between 3 hours and 1 day after cataract surgery. You may have a corneal abrasion or other changes to the surface of the eye that can cause a range of sensations from mild discomfort, tearing, feeling of sand in the eye to intense pain. Everyone has some inflammation after cataract surgery, depending on the amount of inflammation, this may be another cause of pain or discomfort.     Yes, it is possible to get an eye infection from swimming. Even worse, you could get an orbital infection which can put your vision at risk. Swimming in lakes and natural bodies of water have higher risk for infection. The overall risk of infection is still low. However, it is best to avoid swimming in natural bodies of water that may have high bacteria count.
