Get to know Family Physician Dr. Rhett L. Brown, who serves patients in Charlotte, North Carolina.

A board-certified family physician, Dr. Brown is in practice at Avance Care SouthPark, which is a comprehensive primary care practice located in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

Passionate about helping people from all stages of life, he believes in providing support, guidance, and acceptance so that patients feel comfortable being their authentic selves. He is also a passionate advocate on health issues impacting diverse patient populations, including those within the LGBTQ+ community, and serves as a founding member of Charlotte Transgender Healthcare Group.

A 1985 graduate of Davidson College, Dr. Brown attended the Medical University of South Carolina for his medical education, before completing his residency in family medicine at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He is certified in Diversity and Inclusion from Cornell University.

Distinguished as a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP), the doctor is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice family medicine and its sub-specialties.

Among his professional affiliations, Dr. Brown is an active member of the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, the Mecklenberg County Medical Association, and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.

His areas of research include quality improvement, diabetes care; use of registries to improve chronic disease management; and access to care for transgender patients in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.

Pertaining to his philanthropic endeavors, Dr. Brown is a past president of Time Out Youth, a past president of the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, a former board member of the Central NC Planned Parenthood, and a former board member on the Physician Advisory Board of Novant Health Hospice. 

An authority in his field, he has been recognized as a Top Charlotte Physician by Charlotte Magazine several times as well as Charlotte physician of the year by Creative Loafing and Q-Nerve.
