Dr. Maharaj uses a proactive approach and provides his patients the opportunity to bank stem cells within the institute. He opened the Maharaj Institute in 2001 because he wanted to reduce and prevent the risk of hospital acquired infections during transplant. Since opening the institute, Dr. Maharaj has done over 100 transplants and has 0% hospital transplant related mortality.
