Dr. Cofer is a neonatologist caring for the critically ill newborn and premature infants. He can be found on staff at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, South Carolina.

Alongside his clinical role, he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 2000. He then went on to perform his residency in pediatrics with Greenville Hospital System – University of South Carolina in 2003, and his fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Vanderbilt University in 2006.

Passionate about his profession, Dr. Cofer is board-certified in both pediatrics and neonatal-perinatal medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The ABP exists to promote excellence in medical care for children and adolescents. Certification represents dedication by pediatricians, pediatric subspecialists, and pediatric trainees to the highest level of professionalism in patient care.

The recipient of the Fellowship Southern Society for Pediatric Research Trainee Travel Award, Dr. Cofer is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Perinatal Section.

Neonatology is a subspecialty of pediatrics that consists of the medical care of newborn infants, especially the ill, or premature newborn. It is a hospital-based specialty and is practiced in neonatal intensive care units. Neonatologists generally diagnose and treat newborns with conditions such as breathing disorders, infections, and birth defects, as well as coordinating care and medically managing newborns born prematurely, critically ill, or in need of surgery.
