Get to know Hematologist-Oncologist Dr. Patrick Henry Judson, who serves patients in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dr. Judson is a practised hematologist-oncologist offering the most sophisticated array of services for cancer patients. He serves as the Director of the Division of Hematology-Oncology at the Alvin & Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. 

A part of LifeBridge Health, the Alvin & Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute offers the most advanced diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of cancers. The physician specialists participate actively in clinical research studies, providing patients with the most advanced treatment modalities available. Working together as a multidisciplinary team, they offer a wide variety of treatment options and supportive care in pain management and survivorship.

The doctor’s previous appointments include: Medical Director of Hematology/Medical Oncology at Augusta Health Care Center in Fishersville, Virginia; Medical Director of Hematology/Medical Oncology at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte, Nebraska; Staff Physician at Norris Cotton Cancer Center in Keene, New Hampshire; and Staff Physician at Lancaster General Hospital in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He also held numerous leadership positions in addition to staff physician at the Cancer Institute of New Mexico in Santa Fe, New Mexico; Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado; and Blanchfield Army Community Hospital in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Back in 1980, Dr. Judson obtained his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He then went on to perform his internship and residency in internal medicine at Tripler Army Medical Center, followed by his fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

With over four decades of experience in his field, he is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, medical oncology, & hospice and palliative medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

An expert in his field, Dr. Judson has contributed to various committees relating to the topics of cancer, transfusion and ethics, and has served on many tumor boards. Professional memberships include the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Hematology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood. Oncology is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. A hematologist-oncologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of blood diseases and cancers such as iron-deficiency anemia, hemophilia, sickle-cell disease, leukemia, and lymphoma. 

Throughout his fruitful career, Dr. Judson has received the Caring Physician Award from People Living Through Cancer, State of New Mexico. He was also the recipient of two Meritorious Service Medals. 

On a more personal note, he is married. He and his wife, Carol, have four children.
